Interested in technology, practical problem-solving and understanding how things work? A career in smart home installation could give you an opportunity to turn those interests into useful skills.
Taking the first step can be difficult when you are unsure where to find training or how to get started. Your Future, Fully Integrated, from the CEDIA Foundation, offers eligible newcomers and career changers a structured introduction to the smart home industry.
The programme begins with online learning, with follow-up hands-on training available in selected US and UK locations.
Your Future, Fully Integrated is a CEDIA Foundation training programme that helps eligible newcomers and career changers begin developing skills for the smart home industry.
For participants in selected UK and US markets, the programme combines online Smart Home Fundamentals coursework with follow-up, in-person training. Accepted applicants in India, Canada and Australia can access the online course.
It offers a place to begin if you are interested in pursuing work in smart home technology but need an introduction to the skills involved.
The Smart Home Fundamentals course introduces the core skills an entry-level smart home technician needs. It is entirely online and self-paced, taking approximately 20–25 hours to complete. That allows you to organise your study time around your existing commitments while working towards the completion deadline.
The course covers:
These subjects help introduce the practical knowledge behind smart home installation. As you study, you can begin identifying the areas that interest you and the concepts you want to explore further.
For eligible participants in selected US and UK markets, completing the online coursework is the first step towards hands-on training. Once you finish Smart Home Fundamentals, you will be formally invited to a three- to four-day, in-person Residential Bootcamp at a selected training centre. The bootcamp provides an opportunity to build on your online learning in a practical setting. Training materials and lunches are provided.
To be eligible for this stage, you must complete the online coursework by 4 December 2026. Bootcamps are targeted for January and February 2027, with final dates to be confirmed.

You can use that next step to begin conversations, ask about entry-level opportunities and explain what you have learned.
Completing the training does not guarantee employment. It gives you an introduction to the industry and a starting point from which to continue learning and exploring opportunities.
Participants who complete both Smart Home Fundamentals and the Residential Bootcamp will also be automatically entered into a grand-prize raffle featuring a Sonos speaker, tool bag and CEDIA merchandise from manufacturer partners.
