The future of the smart home industry depends on the people who will design, install, and support the technologies transforming our homes.
As smart home technology continues to evolve, introducing more people to the industry and helping them develop practical skills is essential to building its future workforce.
Yet for many aspiring professionals, the cost of training, limited awareness of career opportunities, and uncertainty about where to begin can prevent them from taking that first step.
The CEDIA Foundation is working to change that by making smart home education more accessible, supporting career pathways, and helping people from different backgrounds discover opportunities within the industry. Through donations, individuals and businesses can support this mission and help more people explore a career in smart home technology.
CEDIA FoundationDonations support the CEDIA Foundation’s work to recruit, educate, and support the smart home workforce. This includes helping people discover the industry, making training more accessible, and creating routes into a career for those who might otherwise struggle to get started.

The cost of training, limited awareness of the industry, and uncertainty about career options can prevent people from pursuing an interest in smart home technology.
A student may enjoy working with technology without knowing what a smart home technician does. Someone changing careers may need an introduction to the skills employers look for. Others may know which direction they want to take but be unable to afford the training to get started.
Accessible training gives people a chance to learn practical skills, understand the work involved, and decide whether a career in smart home technology is right for them.
Making training more accessible is not only about helping individuals discover new career opportunities. It also supports the long-term development of the smart home industry. Introducing more people to professional integration and helping them build relevant skills can broaden the pipeline of future technicians, installers, and other professionals.
Widening access means helping people explore their potential, whatever their background or financial circumstances.
The CEDIA Foundation exists to recruit, educate, and support people in the professional smart home industry. It works to expand access to education, introduce new talent to the industry, and support pathways into professional training.
Its strategic priorities include removing training costs, building a global training network, introducing young people to career opportunities, and expanding access for underserved communities. Together, these priorities aim to connect more people with education, mentorship, and routes into employment.
CEDIA and the CEDIA Foundation are working to grow the smart home workforce by helping more people discover the careers available and understand how to get started. CEDIA connects educators, workforce development organizations, and industry employers, while its NextGen Smart Home Career Toolkit gives professionals resources for career fairs and classroom presentations. These activities introduce students and job seekers to the work of smart home professionals and the skills they need.
The Foundation supports this wider effort through outreach to organizations such as Job Corps and high schools, alongside funded training for eligible newcomers and career changers. Its Your Future, Fully Integrated program helps turn an interest in the industry into practical learning, with online coursework and follow-up hands-on training in selected US and UK locations.
The Foundation aims to remove financial barriers so that more people can take part in training. For donors, this means supporting access to education for people who have the interest and ambition to learn but may lack the resources to pay for it.
Through initiatives such as Your Future, Fully Integrated, the CEDIA Foundation helps turn an interest in smart home technology into an opportunity to develop practical, industry-relevant skills.
The program offers Smart Home Fundamentals online coursework for eligible newcomers and career changers, with follow-up hands-on training in selected US and UK locations. Eligible applicants in Canada, Australia, and India can access the online coursework.
The coursework introduces skills used by entry-level smart home technicians, including audio and video systems, wiring and cabling, equipment installation, and safe working practices. Participants receive a certificate of completion after finishing either the online coursework or the hands-on training phase.
These opportunities help participants become familiar with the tools, tasks, and working practices they may encounter in an installation role. Participants can continue developing their skills and explore opportunities with employers. A certificate of completion recognizes the training completed; it does not guarantee employment.
Your Future, Fully IntegratedEvery smart home professional starts somewhere. For some, it begins with a teacher who introduces them to the industry. For others, it is an employer who gives them their first opportunity or a training program that helps them develop new skills.
You may remember a teacher, colleague, or employer who explained your options, shared their knowledge, or gave you an opportunity to learn. Supporting the Foundation can help make opportunities available to others at a similar point in their lives.
By supporting the CEDIA Foundation, you can help create more opportunities for people to take those first steps. Both individuals and businesses can contribute to this work.
Individuals can support access to education in a field they care about. Businesses can help develop the talent that the smart home industry will need in the years ahead.
