FISHERS, Ind. (February 2, 2026) – CEDIA, the Association for Smart Home Professionals™, has introduced the CEDIA Smart Home Assurance Programme, an initiative that not only makes it easier for specifiers and volume homebuilders to future-proofs new homes, but also creates an opportunity for integrators to build relationships with property developers, and certify and support the next generation of connected homes.
The CEDIA Smart Home Assurance Programme offers a structured certification system for those builders that join the scheme to ensure new homes are built with reliable technology infrastructure.
The demand for smart home technology has skyrocketed, with in-home connected devices expected to increase 50-fold by 2030. However, builders and developers are experiencing significant challenges regarding the installation or support of smart technology and are seeking trusted professionals to ensure robust, future-ready systems.
And with the recent consumer report, Smart Moves – The Role of Technology in New Homes, finding that 63% of respondents would prefer a CEDIA-certified professional to install their technology, and 49% are more likely to select a home accredited by CEDIA or a similar industry body, it makes sense for builders, developers, and CEDIA members to partner through this newly launched scheme.
“As a vertically integrated owner and operator in the multifamily industry, it’s critical to Greystar that the technology in our communities performs reliably,” comments Mandisa Khabo, Technical Director at Greystar. “When systems don’t work as expected, it impacts both our bottom line and the resident experience. Partnering with CEDIA helps us ensure we’re getting the most value from our investments and that everything functions as planned.”
CEDIA members have the exclusive opportunity to become CEDIA Smart Home Assessors, who will be paid for certifying homes under the programme. This role enables them to expand their service offerings by providing third-party certification and quality assurance; build relationships with developers and builders who require certified smart home infrastructure; and generate additional revenue by offering testing, assessment, and compliance services.
Assessors – once assigned to a scheme – will review developer wiring plans to ensure compliance and may need to witness, test, and occasionally certify site installations to verify they meet programme standards. This work is paid for through the scheme. The CEDIA team may need to provide ongoing support to homeowners and property managers for any smart home technology, and offer additional services such as troubleshooting, upgrades, and technology consultations, for which they will seek further assessor support.
“The CEDIA Smart Home Assurance scheme shows our purchasers that we’ve made best practice provision for what they’ll need in the future, commented a representative from Auberry of London. “It makes it easy for us, as developers, to get it right - without being at the mercy of a number of expensive, proprietary systems.”
To support this programme, CEDIA has revised the Smart Home Infrastructure guidelines, which members can download for free via CEDIA’s Product Catalog.
To become an accredited CEDIA Assessor, the candidate must be a CEDIA member, gained a CEDIA CIT or IST certification, and hold a valid CSCS or ECS card, such as the Home Technology Integrator card.
“Connectivity has never been more important in the home than it is today. Technology plays a pivotal role in our lives, and expectations for it to work seamlessly are extremely high. The CEDIA Smart Home Assurance Programme exists to ensure the technology installed in these properties is reliable,” said Matt Nimmons, Managing Director at CEDIA EMEA. “Educating developers and builders is hugely valuable so the right wiring infrastructure is planned from the outset on future projects.”
