Flotopia is a purpose-built private cinema located in a renovated home in the Austrian Alps. The homeowner is a lifelong film enthusiast who had previously built a DIY cinema, but as part of a full home renovation, he wanted to take the experience much further. The brief was clear: deliver reference-level audio and video performance while creating a room that felt warm, inviting, and comfortable enough to enjoy even when no movie was playing.
The team expanded the footprint by removing an adjacent wall and created a sunken front seating area to improve sightlines and speaker placement.
A custom “pit” design for the front row became a defining architectural feature while preserving viewing angles for the rear row.
The ceiling, walls, and speaker structures were fully decoupled, with additional mass and acoustic materials added throughout.
Ducting was routed internally and carefully integrated into ceiling features without reducing comfort or access.
