Cinema Genius in Geneva

Cinema Genius in Geneva is the result of a long-term collaboration between the homeowner and Knektd, built inside the basement of a Swiss heritage property dating back to the 1820s. The client was deeply invested in technology and wanted the most immersive home cinema experience possible, but the historic nature of the building placed strict limits on what could be altered structurally. 

Over several years, Knektd worked closely with the client to refine the design, explore product options, and carefully develop a cinema that maximises performance within those constraints. The finished room delivers a powerful, highly immersive experience that feels purpose-built and refined, proving that reference-level cinema can be achieved even in the most challenging architectural environments.

Design Challenges and Smart Fixes

The property is listed and structural changes were not permitted

Floors, walls, and ceilings were designed from scratch within the existing shell to control sound and reverberation without altering the building fabric

Curved ceiling complicated lighting and speaker placement

A faceted ceiling design provided a practical solution that supports acoustics, lighting integration, and visual balance.  

The basement’s stone and masonry construction created strong natural echo

Custom acoustic treatments were engineered to manage reflections and support the chosen speaker system.  

The client wanted top-tier audio and video performance

The system was built around a reference-grade projector, cinema screen, and a full Dolby Atmos surround sound layout.

Large-format Cinematic Projection: A JVC DLA-NZ900 laser projector paired with a 140-inch Screen Research acoustically transparent cinemascope screen creates a bold, detailed image suited to serious film viewing.

Dolby Atmos Sound: A 9.4.4 Wisdom Audio Sage Cinema system delivers immersive surround sound with clarity, precision, and powerful low-frequency impact.

High-end Content Delivery: Kaleidescape movie servers with madVR processing provide pristine playback quality and seamless access to a curated film library.

Concealed Installation: Speakers, acoustic treatments, and cabling are hidden behind fabric walls tested for acoustic transparency, keeping the room visually calm and focused.
