Best Home Cinema Finalist

Blockbuster Barn

Hidden in the French countryside, Blockbuster Barn began life as a working agricultural building. The homeowner saw something more. He wanted to transform the unused structure into a place that celebrated his love of cinema, retro entertainment, and time spent with friends. At the heart of that vision sat one clear priority: a private home cinema that felt bold, immersive, and unmistakably personal. 

Hi-Concept partnered closely with the client to bring that vision to life, creating a dedicated cinema within a larger entertainment environment that also includes a themed entrance lounge, arcade-style elements, and social spaces. The cinema is designed to feel exciting and theatrical, but also flexible enough to shift from movie nights to casual gatherings at the touch of a button. What was once a dusty outbuilding is now the client’s favorite place to escape, entertain, and unwind.

Design Challenges and Smart Fixes

The building was never designed for residential use

Hi-Concept worked around thick beams, uneven walls, and rural construction quirks to create clean finishes and hidden cable paths. 

Seating needed to feel immersive without overwhelming the room

A seven-seat layout was carefully planned to balance intimacy, comfort, and strong sightlines. 

Speaker placement was limited by room geometry

A 5.2.4 Dolby Atmos layout was chosen to deliver immersive sound without placing speakers uncomfortably close to listeners.

Late requests for additional lighting zones

Low-voltage wiring and Control4 programming were adapted mid-project without disrupting the finished look. 

Standout Features

Large-format Cinematic Visuals: A native 4K HDR projector paired with an acoustically transparent screen creates a bold, immersive image for movies and sport alike.

Atmospheric Lighting: Color-changing LED lighting, riser illumination, and a fibre-optic star ceiling allow the room to shift mood instantly.

Hidden Acoustics: Custom wall panels conceal speakers, acoustic treatments, and lighting while giving the room a strong visual identity.

Scene-based Control: Control4 brings lighting, audio, video, and power together so the cinema can transition effortlessly from welcome mode to movie mode.
