Just as smart home technology is constantly changing and evolving, so too are the individuals who work in the field. As a certifying body, it’s critical for CEDIA to ensure its certifications and training materials remain relevant and aligned with industry needs. Every five years, CEDIA conducts a Job Task Analysis (JTA) for each of its certifications—and that time has come once again.
The 2025 survey specifically focuses on the entry-level technician role, aligning with the CIT Certification. We especially encourage responses from newer technicians and those directly involved in their training. The more diverse the input, the better we can support the careers and businesses of smart home professionals worldwide.
This survey measures tasks, knowledge, and skills that are currently needed for competent performance by persons who perform basic infrastructure wiring for extra low voltage/limited energy electronic systems in a residential or commercial setting.
The survey can be found here
Anyone who currently performs this job or is familiar with its duties

The survey must be completed by April 30
Those who complete the survey will be entered into a drawing to win a gift card valued at $500 (USD) / £400 (GBP). View official contest rules here.
CEDIA Certified individuals earn 1 CEU credit for completing this survey.
Your responses are anonymous; however, if you’d like to enter the prize drawing or earn CEU credits, you’ll need to provide your contact information.
Beyond improving certification and training, this survey plays a crucial role in CEDIA’s advocacy efforts and in the development of apprenticeship programs. The data gathered will help increase recognition and visibility for our industry with governments, key stakeholders, and accreditation bodies under ISO/IEC 17024. By participating, you’re directly contributing to the advancement of the smart home integration profession and its successors.
