CEDIA has rebranded its former CEDIA Outreach Instructor (COI) program to the Design Build Program, clarifying its objective to provide accredited education on Smart Home Technology topics within the design and build community. This refreshed initiative is designed to deliver a blend of self-paced and instructor-led virtual modules, allowing CEDIA member applicants to elevate professional presentation skills, gain industry insights, and establish vital business-to-business networking contacts in their local area.
The Design Build Program is broken down into the following modules:
• Part A: Self-Paced Virtual Training
Open to members and available to non-members for a fee, this segment includes two self-paced, one-hour modules on CEDIA’s Academy platform, designed to develop skills in preparing impactful presentations and enhancing communication skills. This foundational module isn’t strictly tied to design-build principles; instead, it offers techniques for tailoring outreach strategies to various professional settings, helping participants identify and address audience interests to create presentations that resonate.
• Part B: Instructor-Led Virtual Training
Exclusively for members, Part B delves into design-build expertise. This two-hour, instructor-led virtual session provides insights into effectively targeting, profiling, and collaborating with architects, interior designers, and builders based on the global region the course is being taken in. Participants will utilize the CEDIA Design Build Outreach business plan to enhance engagement strategies, learn and discuss the roles of associations like RIBA and AIA, and gain tips on effective networking practices — including how to leverage social media platforms.
This newly streamlined, four-hour program is an exclusive benefit for company members and is now accessible across America, APAC, and EMEA to help CEDIA members develop essential skills to use in the design and build industry.
The rebranding of the Design Build Program aims to make its benefits clearer for members by emphasizing the collaborative design-build process. The program’s primary goal is to grant participants the title of CEDIA Smart Home Continuing Education Provider, enabling them to offer CEU/CPD credits to their local design and build partners — a valuable advantage for professional growth and enriched credibility among peers and clients.
Upon completing the full training, instructors become CEDIA Smart Home Continuing Education Instructors, gaining access to an extensive library of CEDIA Continuing Education courses. These courses are accredited by leading global trade organizations, including AIA, ASID, BIID, and RIBA among others.
CEDIA’s transition to a virtual format builds on a model that has proven successful in the Americas region since 2017. Imogen Dent, Design & Build Program Specialist at CEDIA explains: “The feedback we received from the training classes at CEDIA Expo showed that the many were engaged with the social media section of the module, which is an entirely new component to this program. This approach has allowed us to reach a broader audience, ensuring that members everywhere can benefit from CEDIA’s training.”
By extending this model globally, CEDIA ensures all members — wherever they are based — can benefit from high-quality, standardized training. As the program widens its reach, CEDIA is looking forward to engaging professionals around the world.
