CEDIA developed the Smart Home Technician Further Skills pathway to help cabling and infrastructure technicians take the next step in their professional development. This training course is designed for individuals aiming to advance their careers through a deeper understanding of the fundamentals of systems integration. With a focus on specific applications for smart home technology installation and configuration, this training provides you with the foundational knowledge to begin working as an integrated systems technician with minimal supervision.
During this 5-day course, you will learn the best practices for home cinema and media room installation and gain the knowledge and skills to implement lighting control protocols into a system design. You will also learn and practice how to configure a typical router and correctly set up a secure Wi-Fi network, as well as the best practices for control system commissioning. Additionally, you will explore some of the project and business processes you can expect to be involved in as a technician, as well as the terminology and phases you’ll encounter on an on-site project.
CEDIA’s certified subject matter experts will share a vast amount of technical knowledge with you and will be on hand to support you through your learning. Across the five days, you will participate in hands-on activities designed to give you a feel for those on-the-job tasks.
This training is the perfect next step for individuals who have already completed CEDIA's Smart Home Technician Essentials training, or who already hold CIT Certification and are looking to move onto more intermediate subjects. Additionally, the course is suitable for technicians who already have several years' experience on the job and would like to sit formal training.
These five courses are available individually or as a discounted package.
As installing technicians progress from basic site tasks to more detailed work their knowledge and skill base must expand. Where junior technicians might focus on running and terminating cables, building equipment racks and other basic site tasks, more senior technicians take on more complex tasks including equipment setup, configuration, and calibration.
Attendees of this course leave with a grounding in the most common sub-systems within a smart home (e.g. Networks, Home Cinema, Lighting & Control systems) as well as gaining a basic understanding of topics such as programming and commissioning best practices.
IP networking is arguably the most important topic in the home technology industry. This course provides an introduction to IP networks and their place within residential installations.
The course is ideal for beginners and individuals looking to learn, formalise and increase their IP networking knowledge.
