Steve Moore decided against a career in architecture to launch a business selling high-end AV to music-loving homeowners nearly 40 years ago. He then left to set up SMC in 1993 and, inspired by a visit to CEDIA Expo that year, helped to launch CEDIA in the UK, running it alongside his own company from his London dining room, subsequently teaching at numerous CEDIA events worldwide.
SMC, like the industry in general, has grown enormously since then, and Moore has consulted for a wide variety of technology businesses, large and small, along the way. With strong successors running SMC, Moore is now semi-retired, and continues to support others operating in the connected home space.

Brad Kibbel (then Director of New Products for SONY Corp of America) became one of the founders of the Custom Electronics Design and Installation Association (CEDIA) due to his drive and passion in imagining the art of the possible; how electronics might be combined with software and integrated into our homes and lives. He frequently collaborated with technology companies engaged in similar quests. Apple senior management held Brad's opinion and insights in particularly high regard. All of this culminated in Brad being enshrined posthumously in the CEDIA Hall of Fame – one of the first executives from any manufacturer to receive this honor.
