ASL - Best Home Cinema Level II finalist, EMEA, 2023

The performance objective was to create the “best private cinema” to entertain the client’s guests from across the world with fi lm, music, and theatre. Exceptional sound was vital to the success of the project.

The starting space was a concrete shell in the basement. The integrators who collaborated on the project built a room within a room fl oating on an isolated concrete slab to achieve full sound isolation from a neighbouring nightclub and 
shooting range. Using a complex construction of membrane absorbers and wood board, an internal acoustic shell allows bass absorption and helps achieve a balanced room response. 

Angled panels at the back of the room minimise back wall reflection, like a wave breaking on a beach rather than hitting a vertical wall. The audio had to be designed around the client’s 6.5m Samsung Wall screen, which limited space for speaker positioning. A Wisdom system provided the solution and includes two Sage  Cinema Line array speakers on the left and right sides of the screen, as well as a Horizontal Line Source centre speaker across the top.

The Cinema Line speakers eliminate fl oor and ceiling reflection and feature high-output woofers which deliver power 
and dynamics uniformly across the room. To maximise the bass impact and time congruency, a row of Wisdom STS subs has been placed across the front wall of the cinema below the screen. This provides a well-aligned planar wave of bass that travels down the room in sync with sound from the main left and right speakers.
