Designed as a platform for industry dialogue and in-depth analysis, the Forum brings together integrators, manufacturers, distributors, and professionals from related sectors to discuss the key issues shaping the home automation industry in Australia and New Zealand: workforce development, industry recognition, training pathways, and opportunities in emerging markets.
Program
Angela McDonald will open the event with the session “Member Pulse and Sector Health Update” (8:45–9:30 a.m.), a data-driven analysis of the current state of the integration sector, drawing on industry data and a pre-conference member survey to provide a practical overview of the sector’s current situation and priorities for the coming months.
Christina Bradley of the Powering Skills Organization will present Training for the Smart Energy Home (9:30–10:15 a.m.). As homes become more connected and energy systems grow more complex, this session explores new pathways in vocational training—ranging from traditional energy trades to smart home integration roles—examines how national training programs are being redesigned, and analyzes how the industry can collaboratively design programs that better support smart home and energy technologies.
Associate Professor Michele Verdonck of the University of the Sunshine Coast presents Assistive Technology: Smart Homes and Independent Living (10:30–11:15 a.m.). This session explores how technology is being used in real-world disability contexts, drawing on participatory research with people living with spinal cord injuries. She describes collaborative design principles for best practices and the role that integrators and providers can play in delivering solutions that enhance independence and dignity.
Dr. Stephen Hart closes the program with The New Apprentice Runs Wires: Will Advanced Humanoids Become Part of the Australian Professional’s Toolkit? (11:15–12:00). Drawing on a career that began as a telecommunications technician apprentice and led him to earn a doctorate in Education and hold executive leadership positions in the field of organizational culture, Hart challenges the narrative of displacement and examines what the future of human-machine collaboration truly looks like for CEDIA professionals.
